uninstall MPlayer from MacBook Pro

Dear All,

I am very new to MAC Book Pro and tried to uninstall MPlayer from my computer. The problem with me is that, the MPlayer Application MPlayer Osx is loaded in Mplayer Volume. it shows it as a disc. when i try to put Mplayer Volume in Trash, the trash becomes eject icon. when i try to eject the disc, it refuses and says Mplayer Osx is using it.

When i find Mplayer Osx in finder and try to put it in trash. It says "The item “MPlayer OSX” can’t be moved to the Trash because it can’t be deleted."

Now i am stuck up in a loop and do not know how to delete MPlayer Osx Application as well as MPlayer whose kind is Volume (Disk).

Please guide me.

It sounds like you never actually installed MPlayer -- you just put the disk image in Applications. When you download a program, it often comes as a disk image (dmg file). Double clicking that mounts the "disk" on your desktop and inside that is the actual application. You're supposed to drag THAT file to your Application folder. Once that's done, you should be able to drag the "disk" and the disk image file (dmg) to the trash.

I suspect what's going on is that you're launching the disk image, then launching the application. A program cannot be trashed while it is open. Perhaps you are trying to "quit" MPlayer by clicking the red button on the program's top left side. This is not how you quit applications. You must choose File -> Quit from the menubar or command-q.

But anyway, here's how to get rid of the program if you still want to:

1. Restart your computer. Make sure that MPlayer or the disk image are not set to open automatically at login.

2. Locate the Mplayer DMG file. Drag it to the trash.

It sounds as though you have opened a Disk Image and run the app from there rather than installing it in the Applications folder.
