Hi I made a mistake last night as I have Kaspersky on my Imac 27", but I also have Intego X9 Bundle on here. For the life of me I can not uninstall Kaspersky at all, like my screen name says I am not savvy on PCs.

You don't need any of this antivirus on Mac. Delete it all.

I am glad I got Kaspersky off the Mac here, now I would like to redownload the Intego X9 as it is really only for piece of mind.

I don’t use any third party AV software. macOS especially more recent versions have excellent built-in defenses.

Thank you for that link, I will have a look at that.

I have just clicked from the Apple App store only, thank you for that link again.
Just at the bottom I noticed a FileVault is turned off, is it ok to switch that on ?

Thank you again @MadAboutMacs for complete safety I will do this.
I use this Mac the most but every so often my wife uses it as she needs to print off paper work, is it a good idea to set up use for another user that we can both use most of the time ?

Please don’t come back and say you forgot the passkey. Please don’t do it. Not Savvy in name not savvy in nature. Step away from the Mac and have a coffee. Let those here worry about your security. This is sent with love and care.

Yes that’s good practice. However just for the occasional print with your due diligence I would not bother for a while. All the best.

Just having a coffee now, I will be taking on Everyones advice and noting it in my head. At the moment I am noting down ALL my passwords till it is all 100% which is close now.

@NotSavvy

Dave, you asked for advice. Here's mine. Forget File Vault (FV).

Firstly, your iMac is Desk bound in your home - you don't travel with it.

Secondly, unless you have secrets the CIA or Kremlin want, the Mac's own built-in security is perfectly adequate.

Thirdly, FV is only "operational" ie active when you shut down the Mac - obviously it cannot function while you are using it. Shutting it down each time you leave the Mac is not likely to appeal to you.

Fourthly, if you ever forget the PW and lose the recovery/security key, nobody, not even Apple can get into your iMac. It's dead meat.

So be sensible in your practice and stop worrying ;)

And - if your wife's useage is limited to the occasional print request, no need to add her on as a second user.

But - there is some sense in creating a second Admin User Account and having done so, leave it alone. Why? Well, if some faults or problems develop on your iMac, having a "Clean" Admin user account can come in handy in determining the nature of the problem.

Thank you yet again Ian, I shall take all your great help/advice on and do what you have said. I have just finished re-downloading my photo editing software, and now my back up is working a treat. I got to say yet again Thank you all so very much for being of great help, I shall use all the help/advice I get and most of all LISTEN.

As the others have suggested, do not turn on FileVault. Do not install anti-virus software, do not visit sites with illicit software, do not download it, do not install it. Use some common sense and you'll be fine and won't have to run software that will unnecessarily take up resources on your machine.

Thank you, I have ONLY done what you great members have said and it all works like a dream now. I will not do anything again to ruin this now plus NO FV at all or security or anything else.
