Unicode texts displayed as boxes in MAC 10.6

I am not able to read Tamil Unicode characters in MacBook Pro (10.6.4).
Do i have to install any Language Pack?
" System Preferences -> Languages & Text " does not list the language option "Tamil".
Need help, please.

Unless there is a special language pack that you can download or purchase, I'm afraid that you will be unable to display the Tamil unicode characters. Although Mac OS X supports many languages, it does not support all of them.

You might wish to go to this web site which has fonts for Tamil which they claim can be used in OS X.

what application are you using to read, application or web browser.

You may need to install a Tamil font

I tried so many Unicode fonts, still not able to make it 100%.
Tamil fonts displayed, but broken. Some characters not shown up correctly.
I don't know what to do.

Some people say that MAC 10.6 itself is bundled with Arial Unicode MS. If so, how to enable that?

I am using web browser (from MacBook Pro).

OK. Let's try this: (assuming you're using SL 10.6.)

System Preferences, Language & Text. Click on "Input Sources". Now scroll on down to the "Tamil Input Method" and place a check in the box.

You may still have to download and import Tamil fonts but give that a try first. When I read your first post, I had assumed that you already went through the input sources list.

Thanks for that reply.
I installed a Tamil font (tried code 200o also)and tried using the input methods. I selected Tamil input "Tamil 99". When I type, I get the text but broken. Please check the attachment.

Somewhere I read "If I have Microsoft office installed in this Mac, I should disable 'Roman' and 'Arial MS' fonts". I did that too. But still not able to figure out how to get the proper display of Tamil texts in MAC machine.

Thanks everyone.
This issue has been resolved. I found the font "Inaimathi.tff" and other Tamil unicode supporting fonts were not installed. When I installed using the Installation disc, the tamil text appeared clearly without broken.

Now, I am able to read and type in Tamil in this MacBook Pro, without any other supporting software!

I tried installing "Inaimathi" but still im getting broken fonts.
( in safari & Oprea).Input source others everything checked.
Can u help me solving this pls..?
