Hi, I am on Yosemite.

When I type the command Display on the terminal I get this error:

display: unable to open X server `/private/tmp/com.apple.launchd.1UcRebddrZ/org.macosforge.xquartz:0' @ error/display.c/DisplayImageCommand/426.

Any help welcome

Welcome to the forums.

Are you sure you are on plain Yosemite or on Yosemite with a few extras ? :)
I simply googled the message provided and there are some references to it.

Cheers ... McBie

Thinking about it it is possible that this was part of ImageMagick installation by MacPorts. The installation was done with: sudo port install ImageMagick
After that I had the oportunity to test ImageMagick and Display was one of the tests, which worked at the time. Then I had to "import requests" and it gave an error:

XIO: fatal IO error 35 (Resource temporarily unavailable) on X server "/private/tmp/com.apple.launchd.1UcRebddrZ/org.macosforge.xquartz:0"
after 24 requests (23 known processed) with 0 events remaining.

Following some advice I found on the net I removed file org.macosforge.xquartz:0 and I believe this is what killed Display

One addition:

The variable $DISPLAY shows this:

Jose-B-Almeida:~ josebalmeida$ echo $DISPLAY
/private/tmp/com.apple.launchd.1UcRebddrZ/org.macosforge.xquartz:0
Jose-B-Almeida:~ josebalmeida$

Hi

Display is working again after XQuartz re-installation. No I am back where I started, with the import question, but that would fall into another thread.
