In the process of freeing up space on my HD (MPB 10.13.6 - Mid 2014) and see that I have two copies of Google Back Up and Synch in the applications folder. They were downloaded two months apart. I assume that it will be OK to delete one of these: but does it matter which one? One is October 2029 and the other December 2019. I have the app called MacRemover.
Thanks in advance for comments.

Delete the app with the older modified date in Finder. Then run the version that's left and see if it will update itself to the latest (if it isn't already).

It should be safe to remove the October version and keep the December one. By the way, the free "AppCleaner" application is something that we know is safe to use and does not cost $29.95 as does "MacRemover". I did some reading about MacRemover and to be honest I would not feel safe using it. But it's your choice. Be sure to make a backup before you remove anything.

I think, having had a few issues with this app in the past, that you might just check with Google to see if there is an update rather than downloading another version when you already have two. I believe you will need their Updater app for this to happen automatically. The odd thing is that in my experience Google Updater is installed automatically whenever you install a Google product. Check if you already have it.

It wasn't asked, but it might be an idea to check if the Google Back Up and Synch apps actually includes any metadata that Randy B. Singer made mention of in a separate post lately.

I'd say it's not worth having having a "backup" if not all the data one might need is even available. :Smirk:
