So I've had it with windows and i'm gonna get a mac (yey!). Also, my dad is considering getting a laptop for his work. I'm telling him to get a mac, at first he was going to, but then he wanted to get a windows because the rest of the world (hes not very computer literate) uses windows and he doesnt want to learn to OS, he barley knows windows now. Does anyone have any advice to convince him to get a mac?

if you get yours before he orders his, use it and show off some of the neat things you can do easily on a mac.

Sherlock is a program included with OSX...not sure about previous versions. Anyway, it's kind of like and integrated search engine for the web, but it doesn't take you to a browser. For example, let's say you are looking for a movie...Open Shelock, select Movies and instantly all current movies are listed! Click the one you are interested in...and pow...theater in your area, times, reviews, and the complete trailer in Quicktime. That's just the movie part...there's a lot more. Just another thing about my iBook that made it worth every penny!

Wow, I've been Mac'ing for about 6 months and my impression of Sherlock was that it was an obsolete relic from the earlier Mac days... who'd have thought it would be useful? :)

Definitely earned a spot in my Dock.

with the info he knows about window will be more than enough to be a mac expert + his life long knowledge will help.

i begged my dad for two weeks for a mac..... i didnt care which one i just wanted any kind. I'd email him every day as soon as i got home from school, links from the osx pages at apples site, that was when jaguar was around and they had videos showing how to do a lot of stuff, the panther pages dont seem as good and the site hasnt been updated much in a while, just for some of the new things but no major changes. everyones waiting for something big from apple......but i think we will be seeing a few big things in the upcoming months and in the summer. even an emac would be good, **** my friend uses his 333 imac (now 600 thanks to harmoni) all the time, while the new gateway hes dad bought just sits there..........hes dad now uses the imac alot, and theyre selling their gateway and looking to get either an emac or imac. anyway, hope u get ur mac soon :)

haha, i actually tore apart my emachines computer. Took out the ram and the hard drive, called my dad and told him my sister had messed it up :p . Of course he knew I had done it....... and he still wasn't convinced in getting me one. Has your dad had hands-on experience with OS X?I'd take him to the apple store, thats what was the turning point for my dad. If there isn't an apple store nearby look for any kind of mac place. There are a lot of apple specialists and certified places. I just minimized something and my dad was impressed saying, "how come it doesn't do that on my new dell at work?" lol. Good luck, and by the way, what mac are you wanting to get?

I'm in Allentown, PA, the nerest Apple store is in the King Of Prusia Mall. The only problem is my dad is a doctor and he only gets off every other weekend, so its hard to get him down there. I'm hoping to get the dual 1.8 GHz G5. He's working this weekend so if i'm lucky we'll down next weekend and show him the laptops they have.

thats awesome

yeah my dad got me the 1 ghz 17" iMac. Its been awesome, but now that the g5 is out i of course want that. And back then that was a really good mac, and the price was higher and i thought it was the best buy, i didnt know anything about the G5, or too much about mac in general. The last two weeks I have been trying to figure out a way to get a G5. I saw this site - w.macmastershop.om, which sells stuff for about 300 less then apple, i was going to sell my imac and ibook on ebay, hope to get about 2,200, and get the dual 1.25 ghz powermac G4 and 20" display from that site, but I heard that they might be a bad place to buy from.......still looking into that tho. In the mean time I figured out I could affordt the dual 1.8 g5, with ati radeon 9600, 512 mb ram from the apple store through buying with the education discount. I am definately eyeing that now, and if I don't get enough money for that then definately the 1.6 G5, with ati radeon 9800 pro.......id have to use my emachines crt monitor instead of a 20" apple cinema display if i got the G5......but it would be worth it. Hopefully we both get our G5's :) !
