I have searched the web for awhile but cannot find any info on how to link my Mac to my PS3 using a regular or a crossover ethernet cable. I've tried Media Link and Media Server but it's too slow. If I lose connection during the file transfer then I have to start over and I have an unfinished file on the PS3.

Some of my movie files are over 4GB. So, a FAT32 external HDD will not work. PS3 will not recognized anything other than FAT32.

I know that this is possible because there are posts of this being done with a Windows OS. I just can't find a way to do it with a Mac. Can anyone guide me to the right direction?

Have you tried breaking it up into smaller parts to use on the external?
Like just a few movies at a time not the whole folder?
I'm sorry I can't help you out about hooking the PS3 to the computer though.

That was one of the possibilities but I would only do that as a last resort. Thanks for the idea though.

MBP are smart. They don't require a cross over cable because they figure that out on their own when using a regular cable.

I've connected the regular ethernet cable to both the PS3 and my MBP but it wasn't doing anything until I plugged in the Crossover Cable. I'm now getting some kind of action. On system preferences my network indicator was red and now it's yellow. Now, if only I could get it to turn green. I will fiddle with the settings and the ip address etc...

I'm surprised you needed a crossover cable. The MBP, being Intel based is suppose to handle that issue.

Connecting the devices directly will likely require that you manually set the IP address information. I've had issues at times when I had my wireless connection on and plugged in an ethernet cable into my MBP. In this case I've turned off the wireless and then the wired connection work. I haven't investigated enough to know the real issue.

Xstep, You are correct. Once I had all the internet settings dialed in I was able to use both regular and crossover ethernet cables.

I have a green light now. Unfortunately I could only access the internet through my MBP, but not access the files in it. Maybe it's only designed to transfer information wirelessly and through it's USB ports.

I'm not sure what you're saying in your last paragraph.

Basically, all I was able to do once connected was to use my MBP as an internet sharing device. My intension was to share files within the PS3 and MBP.

It looks like I will just continue to use Media Link or TVersity. Thanks for all the input.
