Torrent Clients - Having problem

On my PC, I found the client Azureus worked very well for me.

I therefore downloaded the latest Mac version for my G3 iMac and was confused by the weird (HD movies/TV front page) that appears to be bolted onto the front of it.

I thought I'd try some other recommended (leaner/cleaner) torrent clients, si I removed Azureus.

I then tried Bits On Wheels (as got good write ups) but this seemed a bit slow, so removed that, and have just tried Transmission (which seemed very clean and simple)

As an experiment I found a very busy/popular torrent to test Transmission with.

It just sat there, doing nothing for about 5 mins before I finally gave up and cancelled it. The torrent was there, as it said downloding, but the speed was 0bps and had no connections.

I then fired up Azureus on my PC with the same torrent file, and within 1 or 2 minutes the download speed on my PC was at around 230k/sec.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

I have noticed torrents seem slower from OS X than from Windows, but I cannot see any technical reason for this.

To be honest, I am not even sure if you have to have the same Torrent App as the people you're downloading from - I always thought this was not the case?

No, I'm sure that's not the case.

I just don't seem to be getting ANY joy so far from my Torrent Clients.

I DID install asureus at 1st but didn't like the latest front end bolt on (some web site integration which I don't understand?)

But it WAS working. Did not do much testing though.

As I said, I really need to download the same file on my PC, then on the Mac to get an idea of how well it works, as (we all know) Torrent speeds can be all over the place.

No idea why TRANSMISSION did nothing at all, though I'm sure I read soimething about the way it works was banned from some places/sites.

Any other recommendations I'd be happy to hear them :)

Just as a follow up.

Tried using TRANSMISSION again today and appeared to work fine.
Not done any speed tests as yet, but it was OK.

Perhaps it needed a reboot to sort it out as it was just no moving or doing anything directly after installing it yesterday.

Will do some back to back speed tests between this and Azureus on my main PC and see how they compare.
