time machine

installed a external hard drive yesterday and setup timer machine. have to say i think its great. i had a friend who was constantly backing up. this does it automatically. in fact it has already solved a problem for me. ive read about a program that will let you set the time you want it to backup but really dont see anything wrong with the way its working now.

Hard drive I'm using is Time capsule and yes I love the way time machine , Lion and time capsule just does everything for me. It is truly heaven.

thats perfect, apple. i bought a seagate 1t external. cant really afford to buy that expensive of a backup. but then i just bought this computer and monitor.

The heart of the Time Machine concept is the software. Although it is convenient to use a Time capsule it is not absolutely necessary. Time Machine is usually just as happy backing up to an external hard drive attached to the Mac or a network share. If your router supports attaching a hard drive I believe that can also be used.

Time Machine will not back up to your boot drive. Also if you are backing up to an external drive it will need to be formatted HFS+ extended.

the seagate external HD will do me just fine. its been running for two days now with out any problems.
