time machine

may be a dumb question, but would it be smart to partition my second hard drive and install time machine on one of the partitions. each of my 2 hard drives is 750 Gb, and i really dont think ill ever us it all. if this would be ok, then why when i did that it seemed to only let me choose the hard drive that was partitioned to backup with time machine. i startup on my 1st hard drive and use it. if i were to backup a hard drive it would be the one id backup. like i said this might sound like a stupid question. but if im not using the second hard then why not put it to some good use, and avoid buying a external HD. am i missing something here ?

If I understand you correctly you have two internal drives and you like to use one of them as you're backup drive .
Just imagine that you're Mac is broken , that can even happen to a MAC .
How you you like to access you data ?

thats why i asked the question. as for having access to my data, would i be able to take the hard drive out and put in a external hard drive, or another machine. and, to be smart, what if my external hard drive crashed. it was just a thought. figured it would be a interesting way of backing up info without having to buy something else. guess ill go with a external HD.

Never a good idea what if something happens to the computer the scenarios are many so lets just say the computer dies taking along with it both drives
if you have another external drive the odds of it and the computer dying at the same time are very high.

ok i installed a seagate 1t external hard drive. now id like to know how i hide the drop down time machine backup window, if the time machine hard drive also stays on the desktop id like it hide it too.

System Preferences > Time Machine > uncheck show Time Machine status in the menu bar. Not sure about desktop never wanted to hide that.

that just has to do with it in the menu bar. im talking about the drop down window. or does unchecking the show in menu bar also stop the drop down window.
