I was looking for an old numbers file in Time Machine, went back a year or so and started looking through the files, they were current files, not historical. What am I missing?

What does "went back a year or so" mean? By that, do you mean you invoked TM, then used the bars on the right side of the screen to travel back to a previous date? That's how it's supposed to work, if there is a backup on the date you select. I have noticed that it takes TM some time to populate the finder window when you jump far back in time. Don't know why, but I have to be patient as it rebuilds the finder for that date.

I used the bars to go back as far as possible, Oct '13 to be exact. You are right, it takes a long time to populate. It must have been something I did, because where I originally saw very current files listed, now everything seems to be okay. Thanks for the help...

Glad that worked. It's surprising how long I have to wait for it to populate. Frankly, I think Apple should work on it to be faster, but I doubt there are enough complaints to make that happen.
