Time Machine Backup taking longer

Hi,
My Time Machine backups are taking 30 mins longer than normal, I am using macOS Monterey ( 2017 ) & using a WD Elements External Hard Drive 1TB & have nearly 550 GB spare, My question is could it be because it is Formatted as macOS Extended ( Journaled ) / Scheme - Guid Partition Map if so should i re-format it to - Format- APFS ( case sensitive ) / Scheme - Guid Partition Map ?.

My iMac has Monterey as its OS and my two Time Machine backups were automatically formatted to APFS (Case sensitive).

I believe that is the preferred format.

TM may well work with previous formats, but it takes longer to backup.

My answer to your question is that the APFS (Case sensitive) should be the standard and I would format any drives for TM backups as such.

If you can find another EHD, format that as I described and use that till you are satisfied that all is well, then re-format the present TM EHD.

I have found that if you simply erase the drive you are using ( you have to do that anyway) eject it unplug it then plug it back in a few moments later you will be asked if you wish to use it for TM Backup. If you approve, the Mac will erase and reformat the EHD to the correct settings for your device.
