Time Machine back up drive not mounting

Theoretically you could do that, but if that backup drive fails, you lose both backups. I have had that happen before, which is why I keep multiple drives, one for TM one for clones. Drives are cheap. Don't pinch pennies on backup.
Fair comment Jake - I use it for compactness (is that a word?!) on my laptop, and have found they don’t interfere with each other, but yes, if the whole drive fails ???

Remember the saying: "Data is valuable and Disk is cheap". Never have more than one backup on the same Drive:)
