Thunderbolt problem

The new iMac I just purchased does not have a dvi or minidvi port, so now my second monitor is useless. apple does not make an adapter for svga or VGA to thunderbolt. But they do make the only thunderbolt monitor, which is very overpriced and cannot be easily optimized to my Epsom 7600 printer.

does anyone know if someone other than apple makes this adapter?

The Mini Display Port adapter will work as it's backward compatible with Thunderbolt. Any external monitor that supports VGA, DVI, or HDMI can be attached with the correct MDP adapter.

Thank you for your help, but the new Macs have 4 USB ports, one FireWire port, and two Thunderbolt ports. There is NO mini display port as there was with my previous Mac, which was only two years old. Now unless I can find an adapter that will run from one of the thunderbolt ports to a svga cable I have an expensive monitor that is useless. I believe that Apple did this knowing that they would be the only company offering thunderbolt compatible monitors. And their $1000 monitor is not as color accurate as my current one.

What chscag is telling you is that the minidisplay connector will work with the Thunderbolt port. You can use a minidisplay cable with the Thunderbolt port.

That's correct. You can use a MDP adapter connector.

I have the adapter for the SVGA to MDP and it does not fit into the Thunderbolt port. It looks like it would but it is a different plug. Thanks anyway.

Means the DisplayPort will fit into the Thunderbolt...

Yep, (as long as it's a MDP, NOT DP plug) works on my MBP.
