Thunderbird keeps popping up

After reading mail, I exit out only to have Thunderbird pop back up in front of whatever I'm doing.
I have to force quit in order to proceed without interruption. :Confused:
Why and how can I stop it..

Welcome to the forum. Glad you found your way here.

When you quit Thunderbird are you sure the program is quitting. In other words, are you actually quitting the program? If you just click the red button in the upper left of the window that doesn't actually quit Thunderbird. to quit the program either choose Quit from the Thunderbird File menu or press Command Q simultaneously.
