These might be old news to seasoned users but i thought I'd share them anyway...

Finder: until this week I used Command+Tab to shift through open applications. However, I usually have one hand on the mouse, and found that if I hit Command+Tab once and move the mouse over the icon of the app I want to get to, then release the Command key, the Mac switches to that application. This is particularly useful if many applications are open, instesd of having to hit Command+Tab six or seven times.

Quicksilver: if you use the clipboard history feature and want to paste something from way down the list, just double-click it and it'll be pasted whereever your cursor happens to be in the open document.

That's it!

STOP PRESS: I've just discovered something in Word: the highlight button is a toggle!

I thought that a clickable alt-tab (excuse me, command-tab) interface was pretty cool too. I don't know if Window's interface has this ability as well.

Along the lines of Command Tabbing, I didn't know for months that command-tilde will switch between all windows in the currently active program. Up until this time I just f10'd my way around, this is just faster as the cursor is taken out of the picture.

yeah, it's a great shortcut. VERY useful for apps such as safari. It used to work with photoshop, but I THINK it may have been cut out of CS+ It hasn't worked for me recently since using CS at work, when I used photoshop 7 for years before that.

The great thing about this (command+tab), is that it remembers the last two apps used - so you only need hit command+tab once to switch to the last app you had. Command+tab tab will switch to the app you used before the last, and so on. You can either use tab to scroll in order, or even use the arrow keys (more useful if you're on a laptop)

You can also do more advanced tasks with the command+tab feature. You can even switch between apps like this WHILE dragging and dropping - very useful for dragging and dropping stuff into iTunes, iPhoto or something like that from Finder when you also have a lot of apps open and very little screen space. You can also combine this with exposé features. This is great for dragging stuff from the desktop into an app you may have hidden using F11. Or, hitting F9 and then command+tab will sort your windows by application. Basically, if you want to do it, you can. I think there are more, but I'm too tired to remember them now :p

try it out in safari. Just hit apple+n 5 or so times, then use apple+~ to scroll through them all. I just continue holding apple until I'm done switching, then release it - no need to press it every time you press ~ as well.

My bad, sorry. I thought the '~' was in the same spot on all keyboards.
