Hi Gang I just developed a ultra thin line on my screen. Its a 27inch iMac 2013 line runs vertically on the left side top to bottom center of the word History. Can this be fixed? Thanks Bob.

@bobmmor

Take your screenshot, open with Preview > Tools > Adjust Size. If I recall correctly, the maximum width allowed is 1500 (it tells you when it rejects the image) - go into the Width box and type in 1500. Save. Then repost and try inserting the image.

I do confess that I sometimes find the procedure awkward, but hopefully this will work for you.

@bobmmor:

Looks like a thin line of dead pixels or something similar. Try this: Attach an external monitor or TV to your iMac to see if the same thing appears on the monitor or TV. If the attached monitor or TV is OK, (no line) then we can assume it's a display defect. If the line appears on the external display, then it's likely a graphics defect. Let us know.

Yes, thru an Apple TV to your TV is just as good. Since there is no line that way, it's probably a vertical line of dead pixels in the display itself. Or it could be another type of defect which shows up as a vertical line. Either way, it's a defect in the display. Is there an Apple Store nearby? If there is, you might want to take it on in and have them look at it and see what they say. If your iMac is still covered by Apple Care, you can have the display replaced for free. If not covered, it could be expensive for a 27" screen replacement.

I have to ask.... has your iMac ever been bumped or tipped over on its face? Any kind of accident with it? (Apple is going to ask the same thing, so be prepared.) Let us know how it went or what you decide to do.

No less cumbersome but you don't have to remember numbers: drag the screenshot to Photos > File > Export (set jpg and size to low or medium) > Export. Then attach from Finder.

I will wait to see how bad it gets or if I find Through research its something that I can easily fix.Will keep updating.If anyone finds a cure please let me know Thanks Bob

I don't think it's something that you can easily fix. Taking it to Apple won't cost you anything but time and energy. The genius bar at an Apple store will run diagnostics for free, however, if your iMac is not covered by Apple care, any repairs will be at your expense. Sometimes, the folks at Apple get generous and do repairs for free even when the machine is out of warranty. Personally, I would not wait until it got worse.
