Clean My Mac 3 is however a potentially more dangerous app than the previous versions because it allows you to run what it calls Maintenance scripts. These are combined task programs to repair permissions, empty system caches and reindex Spotlight and Mail data bases.

Onyx does the same thing (although not sure about Spotlight), It's perfectly safe. Most of this stuff is rebuilt upon restart.

whereas the Clean My Mac interface lists it's tasks like removing "broken" preferences, unneeded binary files etc.

Wondering exactly which binary files are unneeded? What type of files? Are we talking PPC versions of fat apps?

IIRC that's exactly what it mens. Not a major issue with the size of drives today but ws for some people back in the day. It usually bought users a few hundred MB or maybe less in space savings.

CleanMy Mac1 and 2 works. They work doing things you should and or don't need to do.
I bought # 1 and got a MacPaw ID and a "Lifetime Licence" .
After about a year #2 comes out and every time I open #1 I get a message to upgrade now and get 50% off. After some frustration I order #2 and got 50% off. No reply on the "lifetime license".
Now we see #3 and I contacted the company and they replied with "lifetime License was for #1 only."
So , I guess lifetime is about a year and a half.....#3 ??? none for me thanks.
