If you want to help provide feedback on the next big release, here is you opportunity. But do so on a machine that isn't your primary machine since the OS is in Beta and things can go bad very quickly.

Avoiding like the plague while preparing for the incoming flood of noobs who bricked their Macs and didn’t make backups.

The best way to beta test Big Sur in my opinion:

1. Use CCC or SuperDuper to clone Catalina to an external drive, preferably a SSD. (Samsung T5 is fast and works well)

2. Boot from the cloned copy of Catalina.

3. Install the beta of Big Sur to the cloned copy of Catalina on the external drive.

4. Every time there is an update of the beta, boot from your external drive and install it.

The above works real well if you have a fast external drive. Using a spinner type external hard drive is not recommended as the procedure would be too slow.

I'm debating the best way to go forward. Normally, I'd install the beta onto my main drive and boot from a clone of the older OS on a spinner drive. in an emergency. In this case, the spinner only gets used in dire need.

I won't go that route this time though because I'm working on some how-to videos for work and I need the videos to reflect Catalina. I'll probably put Big Sur on an SSD I bought for something else.. Might be nice to start clean for a change.
