The iPad 2 is highly unpopular... as a camera

How often do you guys use Facetime? On average? Per day? Per week?

Haven't used it yet (either on my iPhone 4 or my iPad), but I suspect that's a function of the fact that none of the family members I would use it with have the right device.

Agree with CWA. I really have no friends with Facetime so it's of little use to me right now. I have the app on my iMac but my iPad is the 1st gen.

I haven't used Facetime either. I find it to be a niche program. The only people I see really using it are military families, or people with friends/family long distances away.

Personally, I think video chats are stupid. When on my computer, I like to multitask. Audio chats and IM can let me multitask because I don't have to stare at a window.

I've used Face Time a couple of times.
Once with my nephews (2, and 3 yrs old) who live about 120 miles away. Once a couple of weeks ago when I visited my folks new house. My wife couldn't go so I was giving her a video tour of the house via FT. Both instances were on my iPhone 4. I don't see it as a feature that I would normally use on a regular basis.

I've used FaceTime and Skype with the grandparents and uncle who are on the east coast. It is the best way to keep them updated and so they can interact with the kids. FaceTime is better but Skype works on the PC so I put up with the iPhone app on the iPad.

My friend and I occasionally use FaceTime. I have it on my fourth gen iPod touch and my MacBook. He has a fourth gen iPod touch as well. Other than that, Skype or Facebook is how I connect with most of my friends.

I use FaceTime a few days a week. I have family with iPhones and Macs. I only have one picture on my iPad which was taken with the rear camera. I didn't take the picture however one of the punk kids that stole my iPad took a picture of his partner in crime. Morons.

Interesting.

I've always thought that Facetime will not be popular unless it goes cross platform, and can be used by other manufacturer's cell phones.

I was saying that when it first came out but people got on me about being 'a naysayer'.

I imagine the rear camera for the iPad 2 is more for potential app usage than it is for preserving memories.

Every day I'm at work and my wife is at home we facetime at least once. It's a great way to say "hi" to my daughter (20 month old).

Also, jailbreaking my phone and doing facetime over 3G has greatly increased the number of times we do it.

Here's a question: Can an iPhone 4 user facetime with a droid phone?

I don't know. Is there some kind of workaround?

I like the idea of facetime. Just nobody I know uses it, and I can see why. Its more convenient to use a method that everyone you know has: Texting or calling.

Human nature will keep people who want to communicate with a wide variety of people from using a method that doesn't work with a wide variety of people. They'll use the method that does.

Keep in mind, I like facetime. I just wish everyone had the capability to use it all the time. I don't think it'll be very popular at all until that becomes feasible. (also, I'm not blaming any entity for that, just bemoaning it).

Imagine if Apple sold a Facetime App for all the other phone technologies in their own app stores? I think that'd be about the coolest thing ever in so many ways.

I have been using face time more and more as I convince my friends and family to purchase Mac products. I will admit I am a little disappointed in the quality of FT on the I pad 2, but its not a deal breaker by any means!

As for taking pictures, I took the I pad with my wife, friends and I as they went skydiving. Unfortunately non of them brought a camera and since I wasn't jumping out of the plane, they all looked at me to take pics. I felt like a tool taking pictures with an I pad. Not to mention there was about 12 people just standing around watching me.

Im not sure if its a bug, or my wife ( theres no difference LOL) but here is one of the pics.

I was watching one of those news programs where they had a segment on repairmen scamming people, and they set up scenarios to see who would catch the real problem and who was inflating the job with unnecessary repairs. I about choked on my dinner when they got to the point where the news host guy comes out to confront the repairman, and among the cameramen was one guy filming with an iPad. LOL!
