...unfortunately I came home from work home last night to find my flat turned over (noticeably messier than when i left) and my new MacBook Pro disappeared... Pretty gutted, but I suppose it is the world we live in. I could really do with a bit of advice though. With the benefit of hindsight I would have put a good deal of security on it. However, it's all password free and my hotmail account is synced to the desktop... I think it is a POP account. I don't mind closing down the account, however i wanted to be sure if I did this the emails on the Mac would also be deleted... Any thoughts on how to do this much appreciated.. Kenny

Hi and welcome to the forums.
Unfortunately what ever has downloaded already to your Mac HD is there for all to see now. Once you close it down via the server then no more will be downloaded/synced to your HD.
It is a horrible world we live in. Terrible loss

Cheers

Oh... Oh dear! Thanks for the confirmation... I kind of suspected this was the case. Well we live and learn. Time to take security a bit more seriously I think. Many thanks

Can't you get to hotmail and change the password via web browser?

You should be far more concerned about your identity and bank accounts than about some silly Hotmail account, IMHO.

Sorry to hear about what happened. I don't have a link to provide you with at this moment, but I read a story about how someone used screen sharing from another computer when their Mac was stolen and they were able to turn on the webcam and see the person who stole the Mac and the person's surroundings. In the end, they were able to get their Mac back by tracking down the person they saw in the webcam. Other than that, there isn't much you can do other than file a police report and let Apple know so that if someone tries to bring it to Apple for repairs or something, Apple will know it's stolen. Good luck.

Makes you want to have a screen saver on the Mac saying
You are being watched the knock on the door ain't the pizza delivery.
