Hi All!
I have an older MacBook Pro (2007). It uses OS X 10.11.6 (the newest it can use.)
When Terminal App is opened, the page used to say the the date & time of the last log in, then the computer's name.

Now it will have the last log in date & time, then "you have mail". (Screen shot is attached. It has to be clicked to see the whole Terminal screen)

Mail app is not open. Restarts didn't clear the message. I can enter commands & they are executed, so the app works.

Do any of you know why this mail message showed up & how to get rid of it?

Thanks,
Paul

You must have some application that is sending you email locally. At the terminal prompt, enter mail and you will be in the mail app and will see a list of emails in the format of :

N 1 <local email address> <Date> <Size> <Subject>

You can enter the number 1 at the ? to see the content of the email. Enter ? at the ? to get help, and d to delete the message and so on.

If you type mail and get back "No mail for <username>" then you won't see the "You have mail" message anymore.

Thank You Raz0rEdge for helping.

Your instructions worked perfectly & the "You have mail" entry is gone.

Thanks Again!

Sigh..., nice fix and solution, but I am amazed by how simple you seem to make it all... 😇

Was that back when you were more "frisky"...playing all sorts of computer pranks on beginners!;)

Just teasing.:)
