I recently purchased a new iMac. I want to transfer my older 2019 iMac to my daughter so that she would be the admin and not me and the computer would belong to her.

I just got the 2019 iMac back from the Apple Store which had the hard drive replaced along with some other items, and a complete new Sequoia 15.2 installed.

What's the best way to "transfer" the machine to her?

Also, if I put a purchased program on the 2019 before handing it over to her, would it stay on the machine during this process?

Thanks for any assistance!!

Strictly speaking, transferring your older iMac to your daughter, requires that you sign out of your Apple Account for that iMac and wipe all data from it - exactly as if you were selling it to a stranger.

Follow the instructions here:

If you don't follow that guidance, it will create all sorts of problems for the next owner, your daughter.

Do I understand that the 2019 is now like a factory reset, all the previous stuff on the old drive has now gone? If so, there's no 'transfer' involved - either you or your daughter would simply create a new admin account, and that's all that needs doing.

The Application folder is independent of users, but new software needs to be done by an admin, so you'd need to create that account first and THEN add the program.

As @MacBiter said, if a new installation of macOS has been done on a new drive for this iMac, it essentially is new to her. So just give it to her, have her turn it on and go through the setup process as you did with your new iMac and it'll be hers.

The 2019 iMac has given me trouble since the day it was first purchased. A little over a year ago, I brought it into the Apple store due to many problems, including a nine (9) minute start-up time! They only reloaded the O/S and everything appeared OK, so I took it home but within several days it started exhibiting the same problems. I put up with it until I bought a new iMac earlier this month. My mistake – I should have immediately taken it back to the store.

I didn't want my daughter to have the same issues that I had, so after I was all set up with my new iMac, I took the 2019 computer to the Apple store and made it clear that the O/S reload of the prior year didn't fix the problem and since it was still under Apple Care, I wanted it fixed.

To make a long story short, Apple replaced quite a few parts, including the hard drive. When I got back from picking up the computer at the Apple store, I logged on with my credentials; this to confirm that it really was OK, and so far, it looks like it is properly fixed. Runs like a new machine.

So, my issues are to transfer the Apple Care to my daughter and set her up as the new owner.

Thanks for the help!

Follow the instructions here to erase and re-install macOS. One the installation completes and the machine restarts, have your daughter go through the setup process.

If you want to give your daughter any apps (from the Apple App Store) you already own simply set up Family Sharing. Set up Family Sharing - Apple Support

If you follow the instructions in this article, What to do before you sell, give away, trade in or recycle your Mac – Apple Support (UK) already posted by IWT in post #2 you will note it advises you to "deauthorise" the device and how t/f Apple Care to a new owner.

I suggest you follow those instructions to the letter. It will prevent problems you will otherwise encounter later.

Your daughter will need to create an Apple ID if she doesn't have one already during setup.
I don't know how old she is but if she does not have a credit card for "method of payment" there are other ways now to setup a free account.
She will automatically generate an Apple email account, please ensure you write down and keep safe her user name, Admin password, Apple email address and Apple ID password.
