Hmmm... you're visiting "Mac"-forums, what did you expect? The problem with your statements are that you are a PC user who hasn't experienced a Mac. Many of us, myself included, are former PC users and speak from personal experience. As I said in my original post, I would not be swayed by a Mac user's suggestion that Macs rule, instead I did my homework. For me, Mac is best. It works beautifully. Is it perfect? No. But it's far closer than my PCs ever were. As for a computer only being as good as its users, that's like me buying a Benz and having to hire a professional driver. What's the point? Novice, or Experienced, Macs just work. One shouldn't have to be an IT Pro to use and maintain their "Personal" computer. If you want a new PC you can upgrade...? that's just great. I'll still be using this Powerbook when you do. It's that reliable. And, the fact that you're here leads me to believe that you may one day become a convert yourself ;)

Agree.... his head has been turned..... he's looking... I think this is just his approach to getting a confirmation that the Mac is better. You know, start a fire, get piece of mind, this tactic draws out all the pro's and many great answers.

We'll see him in a Powerbook at the coffee shop real soon ;)

I think so too! I mean I know a guy so stubborn, still in doz - so during this past worm fest, he disabled attachments in his e-mail. Now if you have to do that you gotta know something's not right! When I told him I got a copy of the worm, here's what he e-mailed me: "You should open it and see what it does hehe" So a friend of mine and me did just that looked at all the pretty C code that can't harm my Mac or his Linux box :p

You probably weren't looking at the C code.... unless they're packing the source in with viruses nowadays.... I don't think so. (But then I have never even been sent a virus so I wouldn't know - In case you're wondering, I have a good ISP.)

And C code is platform-independent, it's the holes that said C code exploits that are Windoze-specific.

Well for one thing, I'm pretty sure what we saw was a copy cat The doz specific bits are the registry key delete/replacement.

Who said I have never used a MAC? My first use of a computer was MAC - in school - after that it was a G3 my sister B/f had which I used every weekend for over a year - it was not till after that I began to use PC's and Windows. I don’t have any experience with recent MAC / OS - last I used was OS 8 something, which I know was not great - back then my first own computer, which was a pIII 533 took my sisters b/f G3 for a run and back again in PS/ Illustrator / Dreamweaver - (I was big into gfx design and web design back in that day)

But that was then, this is now - I will never fully convert to MAC - I am curious more about them and understanding them - I don’t think MAC / Apple suck - I just have my preference of PC's - I know them inside and out - they are flexible, which is what I want.

I Like MAC OS X - I want to get to learn Unix and Linux better (just installed Debian on my web server) - I am branching out of the shell of the PC world mainly for my own personal gain of knowledge and also with this information I can progress further in my job :D

Anyways - as another thread I started - I was looking into the prices of some used MAC systems so I can have one - I would love to go buy a G5 - but $2k is not in my budget :(.

One day I will likely own a MAC of some sort - but I will always have my PC's - reasons - I know them, - I like to overclock :D - I like to pick every single last item that is in my PC down to what is on the motherboard. If MAC allows me this freedom in the near future - I will most certainly go out and buy one a.s.a.p!

I never really thought about it before - but do G4/G5 processors support overclocking? I can't imagine they wouldn't.... I suspect there is just less reason to because more people who buy Macs are interested in reliability more than a higher clock speed... but an overclocked G5 (given you could cool it sufficiently).... DAYUM.

Mr G - Mac is not an acronym, so don't feel compelled to capitalise the whole word - I sometimes get confused since I read your posts as I would hear them: normal speech but then the word 'mac' yelled rather loud ;)

I suggest you find somebody with a new mac and play with Mac OS X for as long as they'll let you - either you'll really like it or you won't like it so much, but at least you'll be able to give some substance to your anti-mac arguments instead of focusing on pro-PC arguments.

I like your avatar, by the way. Did you make it from scratch?

Mac = a computer
MAC = your ethernet card's address. :)

^^ hee okay

Mac / mac :) i will learn.

My avatar i grabbed from an avatar pack for VB (vbulletin) from one of their sites - i got a whole bunch of them - they are all very nice- will try to find them. - i do, or used to do 3d design some time ago - has been a while since i have done anything though - this was back when i had a pIII systema nd it would take sometimes a day to render an image in bryce because i would make it so complex :D i recently redid alot of my old images using Bryce' network render and putting together about 5 PC's all with 2ghz + processors - amazing how fast it goes now!

Some examples of stuff i have done http://200.12.238.21:6543/digital/

Unfortuantly here in Costa Rica people can hardly afford a cheap PC so to find someone with a G5 would be, well likely impossible :(

As for overclocking - you obviously never have overclocked - i do it to push things to the limit and it is stable - if it is not stable - you tone it down until it is - the goal is not to see how fast you can get it to boot - it is how fast and how stable it is - my system is no good if i can overclock it to 500Ghz - but windows wont even boot.....

i have my p4 2.4b (533FSB) O/C to 2.93ghz stable - running @ 39C full load. - i also have my ti4200 video card overclocked from 250 / 450 stock up to 317 core and 525 memory - stable - i had a previousl 2.4a (400mhz FSB) o/c to 3.2Ghz on air and stock voltage!! that was before intel even had 2.8 cpu's out.

if you know what your doing - it will run stable.

I heard about a Mac being overclocked some time ago, but it wasa minimal amount - i just dont think apple lets you get into the bios - do they have bioses? - you could possibly mess with the crystal on the motherboard - somewhere around there - @ least on PC mobo's u can run some wires to change the FSB speed.

I am likely very Pro PC because i know them and i dont seem to have all of the negative experiences so many people claim they have and are the reasons they switched. - my MAC usage is limited - and i am sure i would enjoy OSX once i got used to it, but not likely enough to convert to only mac.

*grin* well see.. it's like this.. You see some girl walking along.. she's about to walk into a huge mud puddle, which not only has mud in it, but it's also a bottomless pit that if she steps in it, will suck her in and who knows if she'll survive it.. What do you do? Do you just watch her step into it? or do you say something?

Cheers!

Well.. i would watch her step in then warn her... kinda be fun watching her clime out after offering her a helping hand.

It's a bottomless pit, I don't foresee here climbing out. If you watched, she'd be screwed.

I'd let her fall but grab her, and pull her back up only if she promised a...ahem.... 'reward'. ;)

Just kidding... I'm not that much a donkey.
