svhs transfer to macbook(2009)-imovie?

I purchased a special cable (Mini DVI to RCA S-Video Audio Video Triple Shielded Cable for Apple MacBook 10ft) from amazon with hopes of transfering from a tape machine(svhs deck) via s cable to my macbook but cant see anything when using imovie. I am not sure if this is the correct cable or would I need to get a different app. for this transferring. thanks for any help.

You will need a video capture device such as one of El Gato's - there are other brands.

You cannot input video through the "video out" port on your MacBook.
