Suddenly won't go to sleep right!

The other day I closed the LCd and it didn't go to sleep right and when I opened it the screen wouldn't come back. I ended up losing some important data. I was hoping it was an isolated incident, but it happened again last night.

What could be causing this? Is it a sign of a possible worse problem I need to deal with?

Used to happen to me.

Fully updated it and the problem went away.

Generally a background daemon causes the system to refuse to sleep when the lid is closed. If you run all system updates, and run Yasu (freeware utility), that generally straightens things out.

I'm not criticizing your advice, but I tend to get the run updates response every time I have a problem with my MBP. One of the selling points Macs users always made before I switched was that you don't have to deal with constant updating with Macs. I admit it's not as often as Window,s but it is very prevalent in Macs as well, to the point where I don't see it as a major difference.

I will give it a shot, but I always update when prompted, so I don't know if there's any need. Plus, I don't see how a new problem can be fixed by an update. If it was a problem since I bought it, I could understand. The only way I could see update helping a new problem is if the problem was caused by an older "update".

Anyway, just a little rant. Thanks for the advice. I hope it works.

Never heard that. Updates are good, and it is much easier/cleaner to update a mac. Everytime I update, the computer runs faster and smoother.
