Is that right? I don't use Bing, so I guess that's why none of my web searches show.

I don't use Bing either but my last web search results seem to show in Spotlight. Try going into the Spotlight preference pane and see which items are checked. If you want an item included make sure it's checked.

Let us know the results.

I clicked all 21 boxes, which included "Search Bing results."

If you're getting ONLY Bing results, that means that whatever you are searching for has not been found on your local hard drive. Spotlight works great, but does not search absolutely EVERYwhere (for example, it doesn't search Library or System folders).

First thing to try is to make sure you are spelling what you are looking for correctly. Next, take a manual look where you think the thing you are searching for ought to be. Finally, try downloading the free EasyFind and see if it turns up that way (EasyFind takes a lot longer, but looks EVERYWHERE).

I'll vouch for EasyFind [free].

I keep it around because Spotlight annoyingly will not fond stuff that is even right in front of you.

I have copied and pasted the name of a file into Spotlight and it didn't find it. This is beyond annoying because you can't believe results anymore or even what you are looking at.

I agree this is odd. Especially seeing as Safari uses google to search. I've looked all over my preferences trying to change it to google with no luck.

Do you mean that your initial web searches, not Spotlight searches, are being directed to Bing? If so, go to Safari preferences and check the search tab to make sure it is set to Google (or whatever else you prefer).

What extensions do you have installed in Safari? One of them may be overriding the settings.

I have Safari set to search with Google (it actually came that way) and as far as I know I have no extensions. I have a 1 day old mac mini.
