Speakers...

so, as you ALL must know by now (hehehe ) i'll be getting my pbook (i've been dreaming and day dreaming about it for a looong time!) anyhow..... the thing is that since this pbook is going to be my laptop-desktop (replacement) for a while, i need to buy a GOOD set of external speakers......and i don't really want to spend 300 bucks on a set of speakers....c'mon!..

so i've been looking at the JBL Creature II Speakers (the silver ones)

so i'd like to get some input on this.........experience with it, reviews....etc....

and also some other good (not so expensive) set of speakers. (Other Options)

P.S. i want something that has GOOD quality so i can have a pleasent time listening to some real hard Heavy Metal! (so the speaker need good "quality-volume" relation)

I enjoyed the look and sound of harman/kardon SoundSticks last time I visited the Apple store. They might be a bit more than you wanted to spend (I believe you can find them for roughly $150), but they're beautiful, and from my limited listening time with them, they sound very good as well.

I've never had the opportunity to listen to the Creature's, but they're definitely a nice looking set as well, and a bit less expensive.

The best I can recommend are Klipsch Promedia speakers. You can get them in 2.1, 4.1, and 5.1 configurations. Kind of pricey, but they are by far the most transparent and clean sounding multimedia speakers I've ever listened to. And if it means anything to you, they're THX certified as well.

Hmm really... Then maybe you should spend a little more, How about buy some KEF Coda 7's and a Linn Kairn Power-amp. Place then in the room with your powerbook pumping out whatever music you like via itunes. Or if you prefer the more personal aproach, then maybe try a pair of Sennheiser HD 25-1. Now comes the fun part, just listen.... And Listen some more...

I agree with nicholas!!! I haven't found anything that can compare to the Klipsch for the price. I picked up a 2.1 set for $99.99 during the Best Buy day after Thanksgiving sale last year and I'm still impressed every time I kick'em up.

AFAIK the Linn Kairn is a pre-amp not a amplifier (and it also costs about $4000, if you think that is a lot check out their $20,000 cd players lol). I dont know if Linn even makes anything under $1000 bucks, definitely shouldn't be used with a notebook let alone any computer.

Since selling the CD player, the amp is hooked to the G5, just wish the Kairn had optical inputs, maybe i'll part-ex with it... it's aged now, still great sound tho.

(Nop, you get what you pay for. Great quality but there CD player isn't the best on the market)
