Speaker Recommendations

I am looking to get a new Speaker Setup to replace my 10 year old boombox/cheap $30 surround sound setup. I figured I would just get something that I can use with my Macbook and just play my CDs with my Macbook. What would you guys recommend? I don't really need surround sound right now, just need something that has some power, but won't fry my computer. Thanks for any help.

JBL Control One Speakers

Sonic Impact T-Amp Amplifier

Not much more expensive than a "computer speakers" setup, but hi-fi quality sound.

This combination is tried and tested (lots of people are using them).

Do you have to buy a subwoofer separately then? And those are JBL control one extreme speakers right?

I don't use a Subwoofer with these... They sound nice enough as they are.

I have the original Control Ones... Not sure about the Xtremes.

I've just bought a second set of Klipsch Promedia 2.0s, so impressed was I with the first set I bought for use with the Mac mini downstairs.

I bought some JBL Creature IIs but wasn't impressed with them at all. The subwoofer was muddy and the satellite speakers tinny and thin.

I'd highly recommend the Klipsch.
