Hi everyone, I have a 2013 iMac sitting and collecting dust, and I was wondering if I could use it as a monitor for this laptop.

It has a Mini Display Port, and the iMac has two Thunderbolt connectors, I just don't know if I can just use a Mini DisplayPort to Mini DisplayPort cable and have it working.

Since there's a technology gap of sixteen years between the two I deemed it necessary to inquire about this, and where else then here?

BTW it's good to be back :)

No, Target Display Mode only works with other Macs. Not Windows based laptops.

If you want an external monitor for that MSI laptop, grab a monitor for it.

It's good to have you back even if your posts are few and far between your last one being on Feb

But as they say... " precious things aren't found in heaps". ;-)

PS: That's some interesting product that Randy posted about that could be useful for some users.

Thanks for this, I have one on the way... anxious to see it in action :))

@ Sur3Mac

I'm replying to this thread as I'm curious to know how the Luna Display worked out for you as I'm wondering if and how I could utilise our 2011 iMacs as a display monitor if and when connected to an Apple Mac Mini M2 and if it would work in that situation.

It seems that Target Display Mode won't work with later Macs and it looks like most browsers need to be updated in order to work properly in the very near future and most seem to need more than High Sierra which is the last and latest macOS version that will run on the 2011 iMacs.

I would appreciate any user experience you encountered and if you think the Luna Display would work for my situation.

I've heard from a number of folks who have tried Luna Display. The consensus is that it works, but there is some lag when viewing movies and animations.
