Longtime iPad and iPhone user new to iMac. Use Apple Mail to manage iCloud (IMAP), Gmail (IMAP) and Outlook (Exchange) mail.

Noticed the "Today" smart mailbox that came on my iMac and after reading about them decided to create several additional Smart Mailboxes to make managing mail easier. They all work perfectly in the iMac, however, only the Today Smart Mailbox appears on my iPad and iPhone.

How do I get these additional Smart Mailboxes to sync with my iPad and iPhone.

Thanks in advance.

What specific versions of OS are you using for those devices?

When you created the additional Smart Mailboxes on your iMac; did you save them "On My Mac" or "On iCloud"?

The difference is that only Mailboxes saved "On iCloud" will sync via the Cloud to your other devices.

If you saved them "On My Mac", that's where they will stay.

So after review and discussion with Apple Support:

1. Smart Mailboxes DO NOT sync to IOS device (iPad and iPhone).
2. Smart Mailboxes are NOT backed up to iCloud as part of iCloud Mail

Very interesting and very helpful feedback. Thank you for that.

In other words, Smart Mailboxes do not behave the same way as standard Mailboxes - which obey the rules I mentioned in post #5.

Important lessons learnt.

When you think about it, a "smart" mailbox is ephemeral, in that it is the result of a search of the mail database for whatever the criteria for the mailbox might be. Change the criteria, the mailbox changes. So it's not really surprising it is handled differently.

Smart Mailboxes exist “On this Mac” only.
