Slower Mac after Upgrading to Yosemite

I recently installed OS X Yosemite in my iMac and now it's slower than ever! Also, I downloaded Java 8 because a note kept popping that I have to update my Java every time I open my computer, now I have problems viewing videos.

a few tips

there are three things I did which solved this issue,

[1]repair disk permissions on user drive

[2]reset pram

[3]reset smc
