So I've been wanting to upgrade my 2011 iMac as its just not cutting it anymore and I really want the 5K screen. I have someone offering a perfect condition (with box and manuals) 27" iMac. Here are the specs:

Late 2015 iMac 27"
Retina 5K Screen
4.0ghz i7 Skylake
32GB RAM
2TB Fusion Drive
AMD Radeon R9 M395 with 2GB of VRAM

My current machine has the following:
2.7GHz Intel Core i5
16GB RAM
1TB HD
AMD Radeon HD 6770M 512MB

I've inspected the computer and it is in perfect condition. He's asking $1800 for it. I figure I could sell my current machine for $400 or so, knocking the total spend down to $1400. Anyone have any thoughts on the price? Does this seem like a pretty good deal? Thanks!

Welcome to Mac-Forums..

The original price for that machine with the 8GB of memory and 1TB fusion drive was around $2300. So the additional 24G and 1TB of Fusion was likely another $400+ or so..so that's a nearly $2800 machine, so $1800 is a great price.

Hopefully the current owner purchased the AppleCare at the end of 2016 to cover it until the end of 2018, which is good. If no warranty, then that's a tragedy but still a good deal assuming it's been behaving itself for the past couple of years..

You will notice a huge difference over the 2011 model with platter drives nowhere near as fast as the Fusion.

And your current iMac will bring about $600-700.00 to offset the price a little.

The Apple refurbished area currently has MANY Late 2015 27" iMac's in stock....with various configurations ranging from $1269 to over $2000. One configuration that comes very close to what's mentioned in post #1 is $1909:

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/...uad-core-intel-core-i7-with-retina-5k-display

RAM is user upgradeable & less expensive than Apple's prices for RAM. All Apple refurbished computers come with 12 months of warranty...and also qualify for 3 years of extended warranty if you choose to purchase it.

If it were me. For the small price difference between $1800 mentioned above for a "used" computer...and the Apple refurbished models...I would go with Apple refurbished. And of course you could also choose a less pricey model all the way down to $1269!:)

Sell your old 2011 27" iMac for $400...and that's as little as $869 for a super nice 2015 27" iMac!:)

Thanks for the advice guys. I went ahead and did it. He had already purchased the AppleCare extended warranty on it so with that I figured the deal was too good to pass up. I looked at the refurbished model that was comparable like mentioned above and after taxes plus adding memory it was well over $2000. Plus adding the apple care would have cost an additional $169. Seemed like a good deal and after inspecting the computer it was obvious that it wasn't something he used and pretty much a new computer. Thanks again, really happy with this machine.

Congrats on the purchase.:) The extended Applecare warranty would have been the tipping point for me (versus refurbished). If the extended warranty info was mentioned in post #1...I would have recommended getting it right away.:)

Congrats again,

Thanks guys for the help. Wow this is such a huge difference than my previous model. Its sooo much faster. I'd done a clean install of OSX on my 2011 to try and speed things up but its no where close to this newer one in terms of speed/processing time. And I can't get enough of the screen. Thanks again!

Well it is called progress. Things get faster and faster, not slower. Like life actually. The older you get the faster it goes!

Are you running Sierra OS X.12.6?

Lol yes I realize that. After you start doing things a certain way on an older machine it’s always eye opening how much better they’ve gotten with time.

Running latest version of Sierra.
