where is the blue screen

I bought my first ever mac about 2 weeks ago the 13" macbook pro.If im honest i bought it cos it looked pretty. Iv been a longtime pc user, so when i discovered a new operating system was released for it i figured thats my bank holiday weekend sorted.
I put the disk in the machine pressed install, it whirred away for about 30 mins then came back on. i have a few questions
wheres the blue screen of death and the weekend full of searching for drivers and the quest to make it start

how am expected to tell anythings changed with no blue screen, what am i suppose to do with my long weekend.
it all seems the same as it did b4 i installed the new operating system, i didn't even lose my music library.
sigh i feel sorta robbed

I did an upgrade from 10.5.7, not a clean install. It killed "Little Snitch" and I swear Firefox is slower...

Yes Firefox seems slower. It appears to hesitate a lot when loading pages.

Firefox for me is the same as it was in 10.5.X. As for Little Snitch, you need to upgrade to 2.2.b and it works fine for me now.

Yeah, I dropped Firefox after the install and now use Opera as a backup browser. It seems to really zip along, much as it did on 10.5.x

I have a MacPro that had OS X 10,5. Bought SL and installed it yesterday. All looked good, but --- Parallels 3.0 will not work with 10,6. Had just bought a Epson pro3800 ($1300.00) now it will not work, plus had an older HP laser that will not work. No drivers for either one. Plus one small pllugin for auto phone dialing that does not work.
I really am not a happy camper right now.

Al Reeder:(

Parallels V3.0 will not work with SL. You have to upgrade to V4.0 at a cost of $49.00.

I think I'll wait until a version update. It seems as though there are just too many uncertainties. I have very little installed, just small things like Flip4Mac and iStat kinda stuff. Also will need a new printer. All this stuff like what will run & what won't is pretty much unknown, from what I can see. Some people do fine, others sort of, and others not at all.

I run a small home biz and can't afford to be screwing around with SL right now and potentially mess up either of my Macs (iMac & MB).

I've read through most of these & may have overlooked if anyone had received their pre-order yet. My wife & I bought our Mac's & qualified for A $9.95 SL upgrade so we sent in our pre-order. At (Apple - Status Inquiry) I can find our order info OK but it says it's Back Ordered. I was wondering if anyone had received their pre-order yet?
Thanks

Haven't received mine yet either. Order status indicates it was shipped by USPS on August 26 and should arrive today. I ordered mine about two weeks ago iirc.

Cheers!

I have installed SL on 4 Macs so far, 1 to go (love that family pack!) and have had no issues at all - one one Mac a legacy app required Rosetta to install, on another Mac I had to uninstall/reinstall my Sprint USB modem software. We are talking all of 5 minutes extra work. I think this was the simplest, cleanest OS upgrade I have ever been through. I don't think its necessary to wait until a version update - just back up your stuff before you upgrade and you'll be fine.

Cheers

I have 3 "concerns":

1) Will my Brother MFC-9440CN work with SL?
2) Will my MacAlly PHR-250 OTG (USB hard drive) work with SL? (When I bought it, it worked with Tiger, until I updated it. It did not work with Leopard.)
3) I wish I had bought my update disk from somewhere else besides Apple. According to my email, I may not get the disk until Sept 9!! :(

Just upgraded to SL. Took 28 minutes on my 13" 2.4GhZ with Intel 64Gb SLC SSD HD. Had 5Gb of free space before, now got 14GB :)
I heard some people had trouble with their usb mobile modems. My o2 works fine.

Just finished my upgrade. Took about 40 minutes, gained 21 GB of free space over what I had. Smooth install, no problems whatsoever.

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard, it works fine, faster in many aspects. My only problem with it is that aurora and snow leopard cannot work together. Whenever i open aurora, it cannot load my alarms, and my entire computer slows to a crawl until i force quit it. any ideas or do i need to wait for an upgrade of aurora?

Just a few issues so far...

1. Sound mutes itself after restarting. Have to unmute it to get sound back on again.
2. Can't get Exchange to work in Mail. Don't know why it needs the incoming and outgoing mail server settings for Exchange. All I normally use is the OWA address in Entourage and Microsoft Outlook.

I usually wait on upgrades, but I also don't usually hear of, or have had too many, if any, problems for that matter in the past. That's going back ten years for me with no more than a minor issue or two. This time it was different. Snow Leopard should be called Crap Leopard as far as I'm concerned. My wireless mouse didn't work. My wi fi networks didn't work, along with a few othere weird issues. Apple support was useless. I spent 3 hours with them & by the time we were done, my computer would have only worked as a doorstop. We rescheduled a callback for today, but they never called back. That's OK because I used time machine & went back to what I had right before the upgrade. I'm back in business & have no intention of putting that disk back in my computer.

Im getting my SL tomorrow here in the UK. Just wondering if I dont back things up will I lose all my .jpg's and .mp3's?

By the looks of it all my apps, Toast, MS Office and such will be ok. The reason I wont be backing the HD up is basically I dont have a portable HD to back it up to.

I have an annoying little glitch that makes a stack I have for my applications redundant. Scrolling through it in List mode makes it relaunch the whole dock :Shouting:

It's a problem I can replicate on demand - see link

Well I have pretty much finished getting my system the way I like it after doing a complete erase & install of Snow Leopard,

I did do an upgrade install when I first got SL just to see if I could tell any immediate differences but decided to use SL as a chance to go for a clean install (a Spring clean in August if you will).

The install went smoothly, it even recognised my wireless mouse all the way through the install (sometimes in previous OS versions I would have to connect a USB mouse while the setup was complete).

Probably the first and most impressive change I noticed was the disk usage, SL had used about 6GB, pretty impressive I thought!

Other noticeable improvements include the general speed of the OS, starting up, shutting down the Mac seem to have gotten a fair bit quicker, with less time spent waiting when you're in the bit between entering your password and the system logging you on/loading up - it all seems to load pretty snappy now (nice one Apple :D).

The new Exposé works really well, I particularly like how it shows up items that you have minimized, the hover over Icons in the dock to show their windows in Exposé is pretty cool also, I can see how these touches will make for a more efficient work flow and generally improve the experience.

I could go on about all the other little bits and bobs that have caught my eye but I think most of us already know about these from other reviews, opinions, blogs etc.

I think the best way to sum Snow Leopard up is that it just feels better to use, more refined, streamlined and overall awesome :Smirk:

And I'm looking forward to discovering little hidden gems within SL as I go about my business from now on :)

For those who commented on the temperatures of their machines running warmer than in Leopard, I have attached a screen shot of my current temperatures & fan speeds for comparison (although I have just finished moving some large files around so my temperatures may be a little higher than normal). I cannot say if mine are running warmer as I did not take note of the temperatures I Leopard before I installed Snow Leopard.
