Setting up e-mail

I am trying to set up my e-mail account on my imac
it shows my name...e-mail address...then it asks for my password. I have tried every password I have for my mac and nothing works...one time I got through and it had a drop down window that list pop ipop etc. I have no idea what this is I use google for my e-mail. I am trying to e-mail someone and when I do this set up window appears..Version 10.6.8 How do you set this up

Try accessing your gmail account direct on the Google site. Change your password from there and then go back to your Mac Mail app and try setting it up again with the new password. I have had to this before with my gmail account and it worked.
