Upgraded to Sequoia on 2019-20 27" iMac and my Photos app doesn't seem to be picking up new pix from iPhone. Is this a known issue and can anyone point me to remedy? All photos since 1977 are showing up on iPhone. 26000 photos show up on iMac ending in early February 25.

Is this a know issue & how to recover ALL photos to iMac.

(Also, I don't know if the photos are actually on the phone or just showing photos from the online (iCloud) version of my photos.)

Many thanks for any help/instruction)

Apple stopped the My Photo Stream service on July 26, 2023. Prior to that date we could sync all our photos between devices without storing them in iCloud. New photo uploads to My Photo Stream were halted one month before the shutdown, on June 26, 2023 so unless you swapped to using iCloud Photo Library as many of us who hadn't already did, your photos taken on say, an iPhone will not sync with your Mac Photos app.

You need to, a. afford to increase your iCloud storage to accomodate all of your photos and b. turn on iCloud Photos on each device. Once done your photos will sync between all your devices and each device will have access to your entire Photo's Library.

NB. In some cases this may require turning on Optimise iPhone Storage under iCloud settings see below;

As you can see mine is on but my iPhone photos are still full resolution because I have plenty of space.

I've had the problem where new iPhone photos don't sync straightaway with iCloud - there's a delay, sometimes even a few days (an Apple 'enhancement' :rolleyes:). Could that be what you're seeing?.

Yes, Have notice the iPhone delay in syncing with iCloud, though you can force it to sync.

Let's see if I can be more clear. On my iMac (27", 2019) I have all my photos from May 1977 to February 2025, some 26,294 pictures.

I don't know if they're online, in iCloud, or elsewhere (except backups on external HDs of which I have maybe a half dozen).

On my iPhone I have 27,105 pictures including

Easy enough to check if they are synced/stored in iCloud. Just sign in to your iCloud Account and look and see if they are there in "Photos".

Also, surely you must know whether you enabled syncing to iCloud on your Mac and on your iPhone. In each of those cases, Mac and iPhone, go into Settings > Your name > iCloud and then look under "Saved to iCloud". This will show you all the data that is being saved to iCloud.

It also reveals whether your Mac and iPhone are synced such that what's on one appears on the other.

Would you be kind enough to carry out these searches for us please so that we know whether the photos are in iCloud and whether synced between Mac and iPhone?

After we've got a better picture of your systems, we can then address any problems you have,

Ian
