iMac dated 2019, Sequoia 15.3.1. External Seagate BUP Slim Mac SL... drive. PROBLEM: For a week, my iMac won't restore to my Seagate.Yesterday I got a message about not having enough app memory, but I am doing nothing new and have very few apps open. I erased the Seagate and failed at restoring it. Watched a vid, still can't restore it. I tried using Mac OS Extended with GUID partition and other combinations of format and scheme but I either get "failed, try when Seagate can be found" or I can restore with Apple SSD...etc, whatever that is. Any links to show me a process that works? Am confused. Thank you.

What are you trying to restore? Files onto the drive, or the drive itself? Are you using Time Machine to do the restoration? More information will allow others to assist as well.

As an FYI, macOS is up to 15.4.1

Bob. Thanks. (1) I am trying to backup my HD onto the Seagate after I wiped it clean. If I click on the backup icon at the top of my screen I get "Try backing up again when (Seagate drive name) is available." If I try using Disk Utility, which I used to wipe the Seagate, I select the Seagate drive and hit the Restore icon b/c I thought restore would do restore what I just wiped out, ie, copy my main hard drive onto the Seagate. Am I confused? Yes, but where? I thought this is what a vid I saw said to do. (2) I think I tried to upgrade my OS but a message said my 2019 iMac was too old. I'll check on that. Cheers. j

Sounds like your Seagate EHD may have died. What are you using to backup your HD to the Seagate EHD? Time Machine (TM) or other?
What is the, "backup icon at the top of my screen" are you referring to Time Machine. If so you must choose the newly erased Seagate EHD as the destination for Time Machine to use in Time Machine Settings (also under the TM icon at the top of the screen). TM will not recognise the Seagate drive after it's been erased, you will have to choose it again as the backup destination.

Rod: Thanks for the reply. After I posted back to Bob, I did something, wish I could remember what, and chose the gold Seagate as my b/u destination. That turned it green again. I then deleted almost 2 gigs of files, as I was near capacity. Then last night auto update downloaded 15.4.1. Among all that, I got a fresh backup on the Seagate. Magic.
