Lately I have had frequent times when the scroll bar would not move. My new Magic mouse will move but I can't scroll down to read a news story. Occasionally I will see a beachball, but usually not. I have 20 GB of memory and an 256 GB SSD. My storage says I have 183.07 GB of an available 239.2 GB free. If I restart it will work fine for awhile then start doing it again. I don't run any other program but Safari as I surf the web. I was on the BBC web site when it happened a few times.

I also get that occasionally. I usually turn the mouse off, then back on.

Hello Pete,

I've run into this problem many times myself...and I believe the problem is Safari. If I switch to Chrome...I never have the issue.

I see you have a 2011 iMac listed as your main computer...I also many times use an older Apple computer. In these cases our older Mac's may be running a slightly older version of Safari...which could be the issue (maybe/maybe not). Maybe newer versions of Safari don't have the issue.

But as mentioned...if I use Chrome...I've never had this issue.:)

Nick,

Can I run a newer or newest safari version on High Sierra?

The best you can do is what you can get via Software Update. Otherwise switching to Chrome is the solution. Has worked great for me.

Safari still works fine for me, in Mojave (with the 2021-004 update)
