Screen Dims

Hi, i have my mac (Lion) set to turn the asleep if the computer is idle for 1 hour when it is using the power adaptor, however i have noticed that the screen completely dims right down after a few minutes and i cannot see a setting for this anywhere...

For your information, i also have the following unchecked:

Automatically reduce brightness before display goes asleep

Can anyone consider why the above might be happening... thanks in advance

Do you have the slider set at 1min, 2min etc ??

Thats the only possible setting that i can think of.

HI, thanks for your reply... no i have that set to one hour, but thing is it does not go asleep it just dims a lot... very strange...

How long has this happened for ? Recent? After a update ??
Got it i think. Go into Display in system preferences and uncheck the automatically adjust brightness. Or you can keep it on and move the slider to the right. I think that should sort it for you.

I too was just about to suggest the auto brightness...

Does it get brighter if you're in a light room?

No, i have that turned off completely... it seems to be only on my main desktop (1st) as i generally tend to use 3 desktops / spaces

how damaging is it to keep it at full brightness constantly, in terms of durability and life expectancy

Im all out of idea's. Ill do some looking around and see what i find.

IMO i think your HD would fail before you have problems with your screen at full brightness.

Have you tried to reset the PRAM and SMC and report back.

my study is quite small and i have the sun shining in behind me most of the day i think im going to invest in a matt screen/sticker of some variety to help so i can see what i am doing without getting an ugly reflection of my face on it

The brighter the screen, the better it is for your eyes though yeah

i doubt it would be better for your eyes being too bright
