1) Since I locked myself out of my iPad, I've been searching for ways to find my lost passcode, Would it be in the cloud? Could I retrieve lt using my iMac or iPhone?

2) The password manager said I should not be using the same name snd PW on my three devices to access my bank account. Is this what you all do, sep. PWs and Names for each device?

3) I originally set up my iPhone and iPad with the same passcode. Believe I should take this separate now. Agree?

4) Are there password managers programs on the iPad and iPhone? If not are there third party programs?

10AM Monday morning with Apple to erase my iPad.

I don't think there is any way that your unlock code is synced to the Mac at all, unless you used a password manager and put it in there yourself. I haven't reread the entire thread, but did anybody point to this Apple article? https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211078

I use 1Password to store my passwords. It syncs between my Mac and my iPad and iPhone. I'm not sure what the password manager is suggesting, but I store my bank account data in 1Password on each, and it's the same (because I only have one account at the bank). If what you are trying to say is not to use the same account login data on the Mac and any iDevice, that makes no sense as one doesn't have login data on the iDevices, just an unlock mechanism.

There are other password storage systems that work similar to 1Password and have strong advocates. It's entirely up to you.

I have the same six digit unlock code on my iPhone and iPad. On the iPhone, I use facial recognition as the primary unlock and on the iPad fingerprint. The code is just a backup for those two methods. I don't know of any reason to have them separate, other than higher than normal paranoia about it.

Finally, keychain can be synced to all devices through your iCloud settings so that any passwords stored in keychain will be available on your iDevices as well as the Mac.

Just going back to the beginning here, do I understand correctly that you are currently locked out of your iPad? Did you want help to fix that? If so is it an iPad with Facial Recognition or one with a Home button?

1) The local passcode is the local passcode, it is saved on the device only. If you don't know it, you are hosed.

2) Not sure why they would recommend different passwords for different devices, but that's not ideal. You would want to use a secure password and it doesn't matter how many devices you use them on.

I use LastPass as my password managers across all of my devices. I use at least 32-character passwords with all of the options (numbers, letters, symbols) chosen. I change my passwords every 6 months. I also enable 2FA on every site that allows it.

Ashwin, thats a bit rough, he's not really "hosed" it's just a matter of restoring it to factory settings and then restoring your backup to it. This assumes you have a backup on a local device of course.
It can even be restored from an iCloud backup if necessary although it's abysmally slow.
Here's a helpful page from Apple; https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211078

Hi Guys

I think it might help your responses if you read the OP's original post which started the ball rolling:

You will see from that thread how this all started.

As Ian has stated, please read thru the first message that he posted rather than try to answer without knowing exactly what has happened.

According to his last reply on that thread, he has decided to take the iPad to a local Apple Store there in Las Vegas and have them assist him in unlocking it. That is of course if the Apple Stores in Vegas are accepting appointments.

...third party programs?

[/QUOTE
I use Lastpass (LASTPASS.COM) on multiple Macs, two iPhones, iPad, Windows... If I update a password on any of these devices it updates on all. The free version is all you need. It is extremely secure. “Security Now” episode 256 (grc.com) covered the inner security architecture, which is very impressive. The only significant change I know since that episode was recorded about is Lastpass now cycles the raw password (which is much more than just the password you entered) through over 100,000 iterations of SHA-256 by default before using the end result as the key for AES-256 to encrypt/decrypt. Data never leaves any device unencrypted.

Apple erased and reinstalled IOS. Free! When I got home I downloaded all my apps from the cloud. Good as new. Same passcode as my iPhone and no fingerprint sign in!

Stand in line. I suspect it will be late Spring before the vaccine is available to everyone. My Sister in Law who is a nurse practitioner at a large Dallas hospital just got her first dose the other day.

It takes two doses before you are supposedly protected.

Welcome to our forums and thank you for your consideration. In fact the OP got his problem solved as he stated in post #10.
