I finally made my choice . . . and after a lot of reflection decided that my greatest short term need/want is for a jacket pocket camera for those times when I don't have or don't want my DSLR with me.
I really like my FZ28, but my pockets aren't THAT big. And, my A630 makes decent pics but it is unreliable (some kind of software or electronic glitch). So after a lot of research, input from others and hands on at the camera store (plus pixel peeping the test images I shot), ordered a Nikon P7100.
Originally was going to go with the Canon G12 but I liked the handling and controls of the Nikon better. The test images were a toss up and Thom Hogan and Imaging Resource had favorable reviews of the P7100.
Now, all I have to do is wait for delivery.
