When trying to open, just after I enter my password, the lock opens but then immediately recloses. Anyone else?

What is it exactly that you're trying to open from System Preferences? Are you referring to "Security & Privacy"? What are you attempting to change? We can't read your mind so you need to explain things better before we can offer to help.

Sorry... 'Security & Privacy' is what I meant...

It all started when I opened 'maps'. Pop-up said it couldn't establish my location and linked me to Sys Prefs. That's when the 'trouble' started...

Since then I've discovered if I wait a few seconds the map shows as normal. Just curious as to why the lock unlocks and then locks immediately after.

Yes... and it does the same thing no matter what is selected in this preference.

Figured it out....

Account needed password (I elected to not have one for this account) to enable it to unlock.

Probably more of a "relearning'' curve!! Need to consume more fish & rice. More fish & rice!! Don't know if that's going to help my memory, but places like Crucial are no longer carrying the type for this old processor!!

Well, you're in the right place for that! I spent a great 8 years living and working there for the US Govt back some years ago. Would have loved to stay there but it was just too expensive. Can't imagine it's any less expensive now. ;D
