Since I started using Safari's Pin Tabs, I notice that they are deleted or removed if I have need to restart my iMac.

Intuitively, I should have thought they would remain just like bookmarks.

Is this normal behaviour in El Capitan?

My specs:

iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2015)
4 GHz Intel Core i7
32 GB 1867 MHz DDR3
AMD Radeon R9 M395X 4096 MB
Macintosh HD=1 TB Flash Storage
OS X El Capitan, 10.11.4

I don't think so. I have several tabs pinned and they seem to be staying through restarts. I just tested a tab that I first pinned when that feature was introduced.

That feature just seems to work for me whether I'm using the official release or public beta.

Thanks, Sly. Rapid and courteous response as always.

Now that you've confirmed that this is not a normal occurrence, I'll look into this further. I must be doing something wrong or initiating an action via another app, perhaps, that brings this about.

If I find a solution, I'll be sure to post back.

Indebted, as always,

Ian

Glad to help if I can. Is the affecting all pinned tabs or just those added recently?

It's all Pin Tabs.

I create them in the standard fashion (in my case, I find it easier to right click on tab and sect Pin Tab). There they stay during normal operations, still there after sleep mode; but restart the iMac and they're gone.

I have one or two experiments to try out now that I know this shouldn't happen.

I'm really grateful to you for taking an interest in what is, after all, a trifling matter.

I now have a solution.

It's my own fault — at least my own doing.

After you were able to confirm that it is not normal for Pinned Tabs to disappear, I set about testing one or two apps that I use which could have caused this.

I use SafariSort app which I like because it sorts out all my Bookmark Folders and their contents into alphabetical order. No problem there. It works as advertised and Pinned Tabs remain.

The only other app I own which interacts with Safari is Privacy Scan — and this was the culprit! It's a great little app for clearing out all my browsers from the unwanted scruff, trackers and data left after online activity. One of its settings is to clear Safari's cache. In any event, running the app got rid of the Pinned Tabs.

So now I know. And I'm grateful to you because I chased this up and realise the answer is in my own hands!

Ian

PS The reason I related this to rebooting is that on the few occasions when I use Privacy Scan, I usually reboot afterwards.
