Your Mac's Specs
2017 27" iMac, 10.5" iPad Pro, iPhone 8, iPhone 11, iPhone 12 Mini, Numerous iPods, Monterey
The limitation you're running into is because of the graphics available on your MacBook. Your MacBook uses:

Graphics Card Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 950
Graphics Memory 64 MB DDR2 (shared with main memory, minimum memory usage is 80 MB)

When you zoom in there's likely not enough graphics memory available to display. There's no fix other than to get a new machine. Your MacBook is 8 years old and no longer supported by Apple. Still good for many things.
