One option is to disable JavaScript. Of course, killing JavaScript isn’t a great solution and could cause you other issues on many websites.

A much better solution is to reinstall Safari 15 (not macOS) using the standalone package available from Apple.

Note that they provide a link so you can click on and download the Safari15.0CatalinaAuto.pkg.

The article only mentions Safari 15.0 on Catalina. I have it running on Big Sur and have seen none of the issues from the article. Could it be that the issue is limited to older versions of macOS? If so, the headline is a bit over stated.

Nope. I've heard from a number of folks who have experienced problems in Big Sur. As with many such problems in the past, not everyone experiences it. The fact that you aren't having any problems doesn't mean that there aren't a good number of others who are.

OK, so you have issues with Safari 15.0 and the solution to fix it is to re-install the same version again? That makes me think the issue is not with Safari but with whatever is left over during the initial upgrade/install.

Either way, disabling JavaScript will essentially break every website since it's used SO heavily across the board.

OK, if we have confirmation that it is wide spread, that's good to know. As I said, the article only listed Catalina, and your link also has Catalina in the name. Wonder if that is the "fix" for the Big Sur Safari as well?

Disabling Javascript is obviously overkill and unacceptable. At least for most of us. I have to agree with Raz0r... since reinstalling Safari 15 from scratch fixes these issues, that is the only practical solution and suggests the problem isn't with Safari 15, but the update process. It is good to know though that there is a problem and there is a solution that works.

That said... I really... REALLY... hate the new tabs in Safari. I understand why they made the change (saves space) and am trying to get used to it, but man... I still REALLY hate this change.

Next to last sentence in the clickbait article:
This problem can be resolved permanently by reinstalling Safari 15 from Apple's servers.

Nice headline, though. Not saying it's not something that should not happen, but the fix is relatively painless for as much attention as it is gathering.

Out of curiosity I tried the link provided on the article page and for me it did absolutely nothing until it occurred to me to try on Safari.
At which point a dialogue box asks if I want to allow downloads from www.cultofmac.com I cancelled at this point because I am not having any trouble with the version of Safari I have but although it might seem intuitive for some I did not initially realise I needed to be on Safari to download the pkg.
Just an FYI:)
