Running Mac os and windows 7 at the same time in spaces

I am going to attempt to install windows 7 this weekend and I have heard rumors of systems that run windows in 2 spaces and mac in 2 spaces. I was just wandering if anyone has heard of this or knows how to do it. Thanks.

Your Mac's Specs
iMac Core i5(3.6 GHz) 8 GB RAM, MBP C2Duo(2.4 GHz) 4 GB RAM, MB C2Duo(2.4 GHz) 2 GB RAM
If you use virtualization software, like VMWare or Parallels, then you can run windows within OS X and set windows to occupy one space and have another space just be OS X.
