Hi there, I have a runaway program on my MacBook Pro. The problem is it's Safari and I use it all the time. Quitting Safari fixes the immediate problem (Fan running loud, battery drain, overheating) but not the long-term problem as I still want to use Safari. Activity monitor shows 'safari networking' using up to 100% of the CPU. Has anyone come across this and have a genius fix? Many thanks.

Have you tried Repairing Disk Permissions ? Go into Disk Utility and Repair your Macintosh HD, and then when done, restart your Mac. If that doesn't work, make sure Safari is completely Quit, then go into ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.safari.plist and drag that to your Desktop.
Now re-open Safari and see what happens. If it doesn't help at all, you can then drag the .plist back to where you got it, click 'Replace' and drop back in to see if we can move forward.

Cheers

Hi there,

Thanks so much for that suggestion. I went to repair disk and restarted - no change. I went looking for com.apple.safari.plist and it doesn't exist. I'm guessing that's not normal?

Okay, is it really strange if it's not there either? I just did a search for the file name and it didn't appear. Is this maybe why I'm having trouble?
Sorry for all the questions. I really appreciate your help.
