resolution on 12"

Hi guys,

I you hook a 12inch powerbook on to an external monitor, is it then possible to increase the screens resolution to more then 1024x768 ?

Or is that just the max capacity of the video-card and there's no way it'll display more pixels?

The maximum resolution of the external monitor is whatever the resolution that monitor can handle

I have a 15" powerbook that has a max res of 1280x854 but I am hooked up to an external 17" lcd thats 1280x1024

It depends what you're using to connect to the monitor...DVI will allow for resolutions of around 2056x1800, and VGA up to 1024x768. All the powerbooks have DVI connections, and if you're plugging into a new monitor it should as well. You'll need to buy a DVI to DVI cable (about $20), as the powerbook line only seems to come with a DVI to VGA adaptor.

Wait, wait.. That might be a showstopper for my PB purchase. Can anyone confirm this? I want the 12" for portability, and would then use an extra monitor at home. But my 19" CRT doesn't have DVI - am I forced to run it at 1024 which would give me pixels like lego blocks?

So VGA supports only 1024? I recently saw a friend demonstrate monitor spanning (the hack) on his iBook - I don't think it was with a DVI monitor and he had 1600 by 1200, I think.

What gives?

I have my 17" LCD hooked up via VGA and it is at the monitors max of
1280x1024
