Hi all...

I have a Macbook Pro 2015 running Sierra.

I forgot my password.

How do I go about resetting this thing?

Thanks in advance,

Glenn12, what password? Your login? iCloud? Firmware? Disk encryption? (If it's a firmware password that is blocking booting, you can't reset it, it takes Apple, and you have to be able to prove you own it to convince them to do that.)

Gentlemen, thank you for responding to my question.

First off a correction....the laptop is a mid 2012 not a 2015 as I typed before. Sorry about that.

The password is for when I log in to the computer.

OK, and thanks for the info Glenn, but that leaves me wondering how long you you have been using that Mac model without restarting, rebooting, or doing any software updates, and if you did that, how on Earth did you do it without having a user password???

Did you just suddenly and recently forget your login password???

Here's an article taking you through every conceivable way of resetting your Admin PW - including the final and drastic way of going into Recovery Mode, using Terminal and resetting/recreating a new PW.

How to recover a forgotten Mac password - Macworld UK

NB The final way will delete your Keychain, so you will need to start a new one.

Thanks for the link, Ian. I'll check follow-up with it and see what happens.

Patrick..it's been a while since I've updated any applications or programs. I had the password stored in a phone which died on me, taking the p/w with it. Such is life. Ugh.

Perhaps you could consider a Password Manager such as this.
You were not born to remember passwords | Enpass
This is my choice because of it’s local storage and availability across platforms and devices keeps your data “in house” and no subscription fee.
