I have just taken delivery of a used iPad Mini. I was a little surprised not to see the Hello welcome screen so I clicked on reset. Because I didn't elect to erase everything it went back to a normal screen.

Should I have done so or to put it more bluntly is there any risk that somebody could access the information I have now put on it?

The problem I foresee is that if the original owner had not signed out of "Find My Phone" (assuming that it was active), then Alwyn would not be able to "Restore to Factory Settings" because a condition of doing so is to sign out of Find My....

And to do that you need to sign into the owner's iCloud account and know the password.

I may be mistaken, but that's how I recall how it's done.

It's silly that the previous owner didn't reset it back. What you need to do is do a reset back to factory settings and have it forget everything. Only when you see the proper Hello screen should you set it up and connect to your iCloud.

Thank you all for your replies. I decided after reading the recommended procedure in the iPad User Guide to erase everything from my wife's new or newer iPad. As I got a prompt to hold it near my wife's iPhone the process including backing up from her old iPad didn't take too long.

As I recall, that is about right the last time I went through such a procedure.
